Prescott Wedding Walk 2010

We had so much fun last Saturday at our booth for the Prescott Wedding Walk. I absolutely loved getting to meet new people and hear their plans and ideas! I was able to give tips and hints and it was just so much fun.

We had great give-aways! Mini- notebooks and mini 'emergency' wedding day kits went to all the brides. I also had an Inspiration Design Package worth $350; that was one of the prizes raffled off at the end!

There was an interactive inspiration board with ideas for colors, dresses and decor. Brides and their friends could come and 'play'. Designing and trying out different ideas was one of our exclusive fun displays of the day.

This style of show was a brand new concept for bridal shows and I think it was a great first year! The brides were treated like VIP's and got so much free stuff and great food. Makes me want to be a bride again....okay maybe not. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and made the day so enjoyable.

What do you do when you are on a super tight budget? Think out of the box, use what you have, can get for free and get really creative.Adam's family has hired our company several times for his siblings weddings, of course we would serve them again. We love their family so very much!
The bride was not from this area and money was a little tight with all the traveling they were going to be doing, so we got creative. Rebecca said they both loved the outdoors and would like that feel inside the hall. Home Depot tree lot provided us with several truck loads of branches from Christmas trees. We gathered buckets full of pinecones. With spray roses, ribbon and a little bit of magic here and there, we were able to create their woodsy winterland.

Our pictures here are with all the lights on but when the lights were down a bit, the hall glowed not only from candles but with the love that this couple shares.

Hey Adam and Rebecca why don't I have a picture of you??? This sweet couple traveled more than 5 hours to get to their reception site and we were so grateful that we were able to create an evening where their families could relax and enjoy each other's company. May only sweet things come your way as your marriage grows!

November 21 was a day that two beautiful people made a commitment for eternity! Vanessa's family lives in New Jersey, Vanessa and TJ live in Utah and TJ's family lives in the Phoenix metro area. Through the blessings of the internet and all this awesome technology we use each day, an incredible day was created. A lounge area where relaxation was key

What do you do with 100 photos? Make 4 giant ribbon boards and hang the gorgeous couple everywhere!

Black floor length linens with damask runners and amazing flowers graced the tables.

Before we were even hired Vanessa's mom sent about 10 photos of exactly what they wanted! I love it when a bride has a vision and we can create the magic to make it all come true. Black damask and hot pink were all the rage that day! Vanessa and TJ are just the best looking couple we have ever met and they are just as charming! Audree and Cody!

I've been best friends with Audree's mom forever. I am sure we were friends even in a life before this. So when Audree and her beau Cody annouced that they were planning their wedding, I was so excited because she is practically my baby too! What an incredibly sweet day this was. I even had some of those 'emotions of the day' tears. They wanted a woodland theme so we first started with creating an image for their invites which you see above. This was also embellished on a wooden plaque for their welcome table.

We wanted to keep the beauty of the state park evident and used natural elements like moss, river rocks and natural plants. We had placed bark along the sides of the path to create an aisle.

I had seen this fabulous idea of placing the chairs in a spiral for the wedding ceremony in Bride and Bloom. I am telling you that this was MAGIC!!!! All the guest had intimate contact with the bride as she was walking the spiral. Audree had waited at the top of the lagoon and then walked down to the grove of trees. Cody walked out of the spiral to escort her in. All of their family members were in the tight part of the spiral where they were married. This was a simply amazing detail that changed the whole feeling of the ceremony. It was truly intimate for every guest.

The tables were covered with burlap linens and a green crinkle taffeta runner. Wooden platters had logs which were carved with their intials and things like Cody loves Audree. We used ferns, moss, river rock and succulents for the base. The succulent plants were excellent holding the shape and could be replanted afterwards.

Here is the beautiful bride and her equally beautiful mom!

Since the wedding was in the middle of the afternoon, they opted for having a light meal right afterwards instead of a big fussy reception that evening. There was amazing cheeses, organic soups, baquettes, fruits and nuts. It was an elegant and simple meal.

They had this delish ginger biscotti cheese cake instead of regular old wedding cake. The cake topper was this adorable set of goblins kissing; this was made by the brides sister. So Cute!

This day served up the best of what weddings can be. Personal and real! It was about two young people truly in love and wanting to share that with their family and friends. The music and location were amazing and every part of the day was a reflection of what really matters. Congratulations Audree and Cody! I just know that you will have a happy and magical marriage!

Some couples just radiate happiness! Ashley and David , blessings on your marriage! You were both so full of energy and joy even at the end of the evening. We had a lot of fun creating a colorful reception for you. The sunset was heaven's blessing for you both. We have never ever seen so many different flavors of cake at once. My favorite was the fresh raspberry. Yum! This was so great and we thank you for letting us be part of it all!

There are some changes we are making within our company to re-invent and have more fun at serving you. So today I was researching some Latin phrases, everybody does that right?

There was this phrase that came screaming out at me from my book:

Exigua pars est vitae quam nos vivimus

It was attributed to Seneca and it means: The part of life we really live is short.

So I stopped and thought about it. Am I really living? Am I having fun and laughing? Am I traveling on this journey focused on the end or loving every minute of it?

I think that one reason people love watching others in love is because they are really living. Taking a chance on love, believing in hope, discovering wonder with their partner and really focusing on creating a life with another person.

If today, you have kind of got that 'stuck in a rut' thing going on, take a moment and find some wonder and grasp it. Really Live!

New York Fashion Week

Any good designer does not take last year's weddings and make them for her brides. Following fashion and architecture styles helps keep things fresh.
Christian Siriano just featured his new Fall 2009 collection at the New York Fashion Week on the 19th.
His colors were surprising with bronze, taupes and blues. I am definitely seeing the bottom of this dress as an awesome cake table display. Just imagine the layers and layers cascading down to the floor to highlight your cake.
Look around and find things outside of the wedding magazine "box", you might just surprise yourself.

We were asked to design, decorate and serve for the District Awards Dinner for the Boy Scouts of America. Wow! What a change from creating a beautiful elegant wedding reception.

This awards dinner is a big deal to these men and women, so I wanted it to be special. Unfortunately, even the BSA has been hit by the economy. So it was a bare-bones budget. It was held at a local curch that graciously donated space.

I did not realize how intense these meeting are. They sing songs about animals and have interesting little rituals. If you are a "fox", "beaver" or "crow" it is like sacred stuff! The evening was a huge sucess!

The theme was Woodbadge. This is a leadership course that adults take to become better guides and mentor to the boys. The theme comes with a huge log and ax. We incorporated the menus, the food serving tables and the awards table into the rustic camping idea.

Using burlap and pinecones with a little satin thrown in, the guests tables were perfect.

Throughout the evening there were many happy people. These leaders deserve to be treated like the amazing people they are. They give so much of their time and service to young men and women.

My sweet husband whisked me away for a couple of nights sans kiddos! We had a marvelous time running around our little escape town. I fell in love with this hallway and can just imagine a bride walking down with her dress trailing behind. Remember to look around the venue you have chosen to find little hideaway places that would make great pictures ahead of time. This was actually in between the parking garage and the hotel.

65th wedding anniversary

It is what we all dream of.... growing old together, walking hand and hand through the years, looking into each other's eyes when we are 80+.

As I congratulated Dot on her 65 years of marriage, her words to me were..."Oh it went by so fast, he is such a good man"

I honestly started crying right there.

Their son Bob called me on Monday to put together the room for an intimate dinner for 13 on Saturday. After their family dinner the room was to be opened up for a cake and coffee reception for friends. We had about 40 minutes to get everything just perfect. It was a delightful evening for their family and we were blessed to be able to serve them in a small way. I am so wishing Dot and Robert strength and health this year as their years together are a testament that marriage can and does work!

I love it when fate works together to create opportunities to find the one to marry. Nothing like two online gamers falling in love. Pamela's mom had created a cake for a wedding we did 4 years ago. When it came time for her daughter's big day, she called me and we helped them create a beautiful wedding. It was obviously these two are completely in love. The wedding was filled with all the little details that make it personal. Truly an awesome day! Much happiness to you both.

This was a wonderful home wedding filled with all the great things that makes weddings wonderful!! Family, laughter and lots of love all around! Colette is a lady that knows what she wants. Even though it was Spring...Fall colors is what she loves. So our palette was browns, cream and oranges and it was stunning for their back deck. I just discovered that Photoshop has a new program in Beta! It's call Photoshop Express and you can play with and store up to 2 GB in pics for free. So sign up to play and make those pics pop!
It is still pretty basic stuff as far as Photoshop is concern but they want your feedback on how it works and how to make it better. Plus you can share your galleries with your friends and family. I just love trying new beta programs , don't you?

I came home last night from running errands and picking up thing at the local craft store and found my husband in tears from laughing so hard. He was watching My Big Redneck Wedding from CMT. Now these brides definitely want a different kind of wedding than what our company produces!!! My love said it was the antithesis of everything we do but he wanted to watch the show to see just how way out it was.

I sat down to watch a few episodes with him and the thing I did notice the most was that these way out camo dressed brides are really happy with that hog and beans dinner and the stuffed animal heads on the wall. So while it would not be a wedding that I most necessarily would be comfortable with coordinating; they are completely happy with their choices! Isn't that what it is all about? Having your day, your way and being really happy.

Several years ago we decorated for Hannah's brother's reception and this time it was her special day. Hannah and Valerie (early Dec) are roommates at college and both had found their sweethearts there. Our challenge was to create another type of winter wonderland but no snowflakes for Hannah. She wanted icy and cold. We took crystalized branches, pearl sprays and crystal pieces to create the icy look then added blue led lights for effect. Modern and amazing. Often times I am saddened by the amount of "stuff" we throw away after an event. Today is blog action day and we are talking about the environment. Where do we start with a wedding or other event? Well before the day of! Make choices that sustain you, your guests and our planet. Instead of plastic water bottles, gift your guests with a SIGG one that they can reuse over and over again. Make choices about your reception food and serving ware that are healthy. Rent organic linens. Think about what will be waste at the end of the night. Not only will you feel good but Mother Earth will too!

When you own your own business it is alot of work. You get to meet uber-cool women and help them plan wonderful weddings. That's the fun part! The truth is there is so much to running a business...like trying to keep the website photos current when the computer is having major technical difficulties and keeping up with accounting and staying up late researching for hours and hours to try to find that one perfect idea. I love my brides! You make me smile and laugh. You teach me new things and show me so much about the world out there. I love this "work". Thank you all for helping me create a fabulous business that supports my family and lets me be creative. I am looking forward to a new year- we are booking up fast for 2008. We will be celebrating some babies that are on the way from past brides. It has been an incredibly busy season for our company and we are headed into the Holidays and on too some fun parties. How much fun this was! Cade's mom, Tammy contacted us to create a reception for them that would be a little bit of a surprise for the bride. Kellie had orginally talked to us about using bright fun colors but then they got married in Utah and her mother chose a lighter pallete. Tammy allowed us to have creative license with this second reception and make this amazing. We created a mini gallery with 5x7 photos that we hung down a draped entry. The lighted screen was a unique effect that everyone loved and Nicole Mangum made some incredible centerpieces to go with the hot pink, orange, and yellow. This was a sensational reception. Cade and Kellie...thanks so much for letting us create a fun evening filled with a lot of laughter. May your marriage be filled with the joy that was so prevelent this evening.

Hey, we are all for DIY and being creative! Unfortunately sometimes brides and grooms think they are going to be saving a lot of money by skipping on a DJ or a professional and just plugging in their iPod. We have never yet been to a reception where this works well although if you had someone who was really on top of things it could...maybe. "At the end of April I had the privilege to shoot the engagement of Robert Gray, Jr. and Keisha Williams. Robert and Keisha met four years ago at a surprise birthday party for a mutual friend. Two months later Keisha received anonymous flowers with a subtle message attached. It was an additional month before Robert revealed himself as her secret admirer. Robert is a native of Atlanta and Keisha hails from LaGrange,GA.This past February Robert contacted me to talk about his engagement plans. We met at a Starbucks in SouthwestAtlanta. The meeting lasted nearly an hour because Robert was so excited to tell me all about what he had been planning for a year. The surprise engagement was to take place at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead, Georgia. He even had a name for the the proposal 'Remember the Ritz' and an email address!!Robert had arranged for 10 rooms (on different floors) at the hotel to be reserved. The rooms were to be filled with family and friends reading scriptures, roses that had been laced with gold, and unlimited candles! On the day of the engagement, I started shooting at 4 PM and ended at 12 AM (8 hours!). There is so much more to explain but I wouldn't do much justice. My suggestion - pop a bag of popcorn, pull out a box of tissues, and find a comfortable seat. This will be the most elaborate proposal you have ever seen."

Not love at first sight
Such a fate seemed unlikely when the couple met in December 2003. They had arrived at the same time for a surprise birthday party for Gray's friend Gavon Harris. As Williams struggled to wrest balloons and party favors from her car, Gray acknowledged her with a nod of his head and kept right on walking. By the end of the night she thought he was a loser. He thought she was stuck up — but pretty.On Valentines Day 2004, Williams got a bunch of roses with an anonymous note: "Wishing the best for you always."
A month later, at a dinner hosted by mutual friends, Gray asked Williams if she'd liked her flowers. How did he know she got roses? "Because I sent them," he replied.They talked every day afterward, and by last September they were talking marriage but agreed they'd wait until the time felt right. What Williams didn't realize was that the time felt right to Gray.During the next several months, in a small journal, Gray secretly began designing his proposal.
He drew on his Christian faith to come up with his vision: a version of Solomon's golden temple as described in the Old Testament, filled with candles, roses, and the prayers of their parents and 50 family members and friends. Then he used his experience as an accountant to figure out how to pay for it all.How much did he spend? Gray won't say."I'm tight with my money," he said. "But Keisha deserved nothing less."Still, during his secret preparations, "There would be times she'd want to know why we couldn't go out to dinner or go do something and I wanted to turn around and say, 'Because I'm broke!'"Roses and gold

Storyboarding is a concept that is hitting the cordinator's corner with a POW! We take a few colors, feelings, concepts and run with it. Here's one I just did for a client. It's a way to play with ideas and have a lot of fun. It also helps us get a feeling of exactly what our clients vision is.

This was so much fun to do. I love having a "new" tool to connect with my brides.

My oldest daughter attend a class early morning with Nicole and Rhet several years ago. They are still as much in love now as they were then. Wanting fun and something different , they chose dark hot pink and black with white polka dots for their colors. We tied the theme throughout everything including wrapping the cocolate fountain with black and white polkadot ribbon. The bridesmaids dresses even matched the decor. One of the most unique things was their guestbook. Nicole's dear friend had a hardbound book made full of pictures of them as children, during their dating years and right up to the wedding. Inside was also copies of very tender love letters that they had written to each other full of expressions of love and hopes for their marriage. Guests could sign their names and wishes for the bride and groom inside the book. It was the best guest book idea we have ever seen. It helped the guests feel closer to Nicole and Rhet and set the tone for the evening. Our favorite companies for this are Blurb, My Publisher and Heritage Makers.

Congratulations to Rebecca and Ramon!!!

The hardest part of my job is when it's over. Especially when I have had the delight to work with 2 of the most wonderful people. Rebecca and Ramon live in California and chose to get married here at Goldwater Lake. What a perfect day! Rebecca's sister Sandy Evans was so generous in lending her home for an amazing reception featuring the musical group RIO and some very talented flamenco dancers. Kathy Franks from Sugared N' Iced created a yummy wedding cake and BBQ tri -tip was the main delish provided by Babe's Round-up. If you haven't tried John and Babe's BBQ ...you must! Call them at 800-954-6969 if you need the best BBQ we have ever tasted. A Storybook Moment was the photographers for this most perfect day. Rebecca said if she ever moves here I get to be her new best friend. I will miss her happy phone calls. I am so very blessed to have been part of their incredible day. I hope their marriage is full of the parties they love, the laughter they share and the magic that surrounds them.

Have you heard about “Trash the Dress”? It’s a new trend where, after their wedding, brides and their photographers have a wild photo session where they literally TRASH their wedding dress during an artistic photo session- standing in a river, rolling around in mud, hacking at it with scissors! All across the States, photographers and brides are putting together Trash Bash sessions. The trend was even featured last week on Good Morning America and has been featured in the New York Times.

“Go ahead, you know you want to. Trash it. Get it dirty. Get it wet. Roll around in the mud. Drench it in the ocean. Totally trash it.

Now not all of the brides are completely trashing their dresses. It's about art , it's about creating, it's about relaxing after possibly the most stressful day of your life. You and your husband can relax , have fun and create a really unique set of memories.

A Fairytale Wedding

Our hearts are full, wishing Gina and Brian much much happiness in their marriage.

Gina and her new mom-in-law Nancy were so sweet to work with! It was a total and I mean total delight helping with this fairytale.

If you are trying to find a venue in Sedona for your wedding - We highly recommend visiting Tlaquapaque and consider it in your choices, it is surprisingly more affordable than you think.

When Gina came across the top walkway and the guest were catching glimpses of her through the archways, the feeling was incredibly magical. Gina's father escorted her down the stairs into the Patio de las Campanas where she became the new Mrs. Brian Parkey! After the Ceremony, everyone retreated to the terrace and banquet room for a wonderful bbq meal provided by Sedona Trail Catering . We lit the night with heart luminiarias, draped the ceiling with organza and fairy lights, and the guests danced the night away.

Congrats to Jackie and Jake!!!! This was a perfect day for an outdoor wedding. We set up a canopy with swirling black, blue and white ribbons and the wind cooperated just enough to create the effect we wanted for their ceremony. They were incredible happy and had a ton of fun with all of their family taking pictures. Lots of laughter! It was a great day to be part of.

We are awaiting pictures of both of these weddings! Tara and Johnny's was huge, with over 350 people in attendance at their reception. Tara's mom Tammy sent us the nicest card thanking us for creating a "beautiful wonderland" for them.
Shirree and Michael's wedding was a sweet home wedding hosted by her sister Shelly Peterson. The weather wasn't very nice on that day and they managed to pull off an outdoor wedding despite it all.
Happiness and Laughter to fill your first year of marriage is what we are wishing for both couples! I'll post pictures as soon as possible!

Satin and Burlap

Creating unusual tablescapes is so fun. For this event the bride wanted to incorporate burlap to give more of an organic feeling and the groom wanted to keep it looking elegant.

We wrapped the candles in a gorgeous gold embossed mulberry paper and placed them on a chocolate brown satin runner. I am loving the amount of texture that the burlap brought to the table!

You can design your dress with shawls or sashes in lots of colors and beading too! We like just playing with the design tools to see how many different looks we can come up with. Our latest bride loved this and so did her guests! They were able to log on and chart the whole wedding weekend from their homes in Alaska before getting on the plane to fly to Arizona. Wedding Mapper comes with fun icons and you can even upload photos of your venues and event locations. There is a direction button that takes you from here to there and you can let your guests know exactly where every part of your incredible event will be. This will be a tool that all your out of town guests can use; might even help Uncle Ernie from getting lost and being late to the wedding.
